Photos are of cherished items I've collected over the years. Antique Filipino Swords, Filipino Martial Arts weapons, and some interesting cultural items. All are items I've seen / collected on my trips to Asia/ Philippines except those gifts given to me from students and respected colleagues! Some I have duplicates of and commercial versions are for sale, (check Products/ Services page).

Many are gifts given by some exceptional students during rank tests that where proudly displayed on our walls or alter as noteable decorations. Some were weapon inovations by a student, cheerished sticks, swords, and other weapons. There are many examples of the cultual items I found in various places of the Philippines. Some with interesting stories behind them! Hope you enjoy. Some items of my collections are very hard find today, even if you knew where to go in the Philippines!

Datu's Collections. In traveling, going to study with the Grand Masters in different areas in the Philippines I heard different stories and accountings of Kali history and terminology. My training has shown me many contradictions in belief and dialect terms. I’ve been all over Asia, especially the Philippine islands. The Items I've found there, where I found them and stories about items do back up many things I've learned, but disprove others. This table of pictures are of (mostly Antique) Filipino Swords and examples of other weapons seen on my trips that were used in the Philippines. Those in the alter room of my schools are coveted, prized collection pieces of mine. Those of you trained, knowledgeable in Filipino Martial Arts may find that some of these are very rare items! Hope you'll enjoy viewing some of them pictured below.

In a Traditional Temple style school as I was taught the most prized possessions are those on the Alter and next to it. Certainly in the alter room. So it is with the Datu's Sword/weapons rack.
Antique Barong
This is my favorite Barong a beautiful museum piece given to me by a avid sword collector and classmate of mine (under Nate Defensor) in the 1980's Dave Oshanna

My favorite sword is a Barong. On the left is my favorite both are hundreds of years old

Philippine Antique Brong

Philippine Antique Brong

Philippine Antique Brong
Philippine Antique Brong
Philippine Antique Brong is a good blade for in fighing. But you must close opponents long range to short quickly on entry, Sarada then as you counter trist, turn, and pull down and up the blade it's curve fits the body well as it cuts. Hard for a long hand weapon to stop on once in close range.
AntiqueKalis
This is not all original but is an Antique Kalis of about 100 years. Best at medium to long range fighting. A Kalis is perhaps the blade we think of when we say Kali. Able to do traditional block and counter because of it's straight edge. Slicing but still able to thrust, stab, and still pull it out because of it's Kriss waves
Antique Bow Arrows Quiver
Example of Antique Bow Arrows Quiver, Darts, Blow Guns, Slingshots, Meteor filled saps, Yo-yos, Nunchukas were all used as flexible or projectile weapons many mentioned originated in the Philippines.

Filipino Sword Grouping
If you collect take a good look at this Filipino Sword Grouping you'll enjoy this!
Antique Kampilon
Antique Kampilon was a good lapping weapon, long hand range fighting. The end was designed to chop off parts, commonly displayed by hooking with 2nd point to lift and carry the victory! Chieftain Lapu Lapu used this type blade in cutting off Magellan’s head at Mactan Island Cebu.

Dan Inosanto can fight from ground, squating or on one Knee as attacker strikes; Filipino Easpada Y Daga (sword & Dager)1980's

My fondest memories were seeing Bruce Lee's partner in action in the early years of the 1980's with student/ assistants like Paul Vunak, Chris Kent, Cass Magda, Jeff Imada; here Dan with Chris Kent doing Filipino kali Kinfe fighting tactics, it was truely jaw dropping amazing stuff.

This was one of those amazing, inspiring times for me as a beginer learning, watching, Dan Inosanto 1983 doing Sword Punta Sumbrada Flow Sparing with Chris Kent (flowing exchanges not just with sticks)

Notice how casual or cavalier Dan is fighting with swords and knives, flowing exchanges of one attacker no problem.

Bruce Lee's partner Dan inosanto flow exchanges with long & short stick (or swords & knife) with one of his advanced students Chris Kent just traps & ties him up with his own arms and weapons;(can disarm easily)
